1. Takes note of the following documentation considered by the Commission on Science and Technology for Development at its first session under the agenda item entitled " Science and technology for sustainable development " :
١ - يحيط علما بالوثائق التالية التي نظرت فيها اللجنة المعنية بتسخير العلم والتكنولوجيا ﻷغراض التنمية في دورتها اﻷولى، في إطار بند جدول اﻷعمال المعنون " تسخير العلم والتكنولوجيا ﻷغراض التنمية المستدامة " :

" 1. Takes note of the following documentation prepared by the United Nations Secretariat under the agenda item entitled " Science and technology for sustainable development " for the first session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development:

He said that the Commission would be discussing the issue of Science and technology for sustainable development under agenda item 6, which would give the Commission an opportunity to integrate its work programme with the follow-up of Agenda 21, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.

In particular, recommendations could address (a) measures to enhance the role and the impact of science and technology in developing countries and economies in transition; (b) measures aimed at strengthening international cooperation in Science and technology for sustainable development; and (c) coordination of relevant activities of the United Nations system.

27. At the 16th meeting, on 23 April, the representative of Jamaica, on behalf of the Chairman's Working Group, introduced a draft resolution (E/CN.16/1993/L.7) entitled " Science and technology for sustainable development " .
٢٧ - في الجلسة ١٦ المعقودة في ٢٣ نيسان/ابريل قدم ممثل جامايكا، باسم الفريق العامل التابع للرئيس مشروع قرار )E/CN.16/1993/L.7( بعنوان " تسخير العلم والتكنولوجيا ﻷغراض التنمية المستدامة " .

43. At the 46th plenary meeting, on 30 July, the Council adopted the draft resolution entitled " Science and technology for sustainable development " , recommended by the Committee (E/1993/110, para. 38, draft resolution IV). For the final text, see Council resolution 1993/72.
٤٣ - في الجلسة العامة ٤٦، المعقودة في ٣٠ تموز/يوليه، اعتمد المجلس مشروع القرار المعنون " تسخير العلم والتكنولوجيا ﻷغراض التنمية المستدامة " الذي أوصت به اللجنة )E/1993/110، الفقرة ٣٨، مشروع القرار الرابع(. وللاطلاع على النص النهائي، انظر قرار المجلس ١٩٩٣/٧٢.

However, Science and technology for sustainable development should not be considered in the narrow context of industrial technologies, but should include soft technologies (know-how, administrative procedures, policy tools) as well as indigenous technologies.
