In paragraph 16 of that resolution, the Council requested its President to continue to maintain close contact on those matters with the Chairman of the Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples and to report thereon to the Council.

In resolution 51/171, the General Assembly invited the Secretary-General to ensure that the Administrative Committee on Coordination decided on the inter-agency mechanism for the implementation of the World Food Summit Plan of Action and the incorporation of the mechanism into existing arrangements, and to report to the Council at its substantive session of 1997 in the context of Council resolution 1996/36.

In its resolution 1997/48 of 22 July 1997, the Economic and Social Council requested the Executive Secretaries of the Economic Commission for Africa and the Economic Commission for Europe to take an active part in the follow-up to the project for a Europe-Africa permanent link through the Strait of Gibraltar and to report to the Council at its substantive session of 1997.

This report has been prepared in response to Executive Board decision 2005/13, in which the Board requested the Executive Director to undertake a further review of the UNFPA system for resource allocation to country programmes and to report to the Board in late 2007.
