The aim of the workshop was to provide disaster managers with knowledge on the applications of space technology for disaster management and to bridge the gap between the geospatial and disaster management managers at various levels.

1. space technology for disaster management
1- استخدام تكنولوجيا الفضاء في مجال إدارة الكوارث

The objectives are to demonstrate the use of space technology for health, to share information on the status of tele-health and to launch regional or national projects that could be used to develop an implementation plan on tele-health and tele-education on public health.
وتتمثل أهداف النشاطين في شرح استخدام تكنولوجيا الفضاء في مجال الصحة، وتبادل المعلومات بشأن وضع الرعاية الصحية عن بعد، وإطلاق مشاريع إقليمية أو وطنية يمكن استخدامها لإعداد خطة تنفيذية بشأن الرعاية الصحية عن بعد والتعليم عن بعد في مجال الصحة العمومية.

The course consisted of the following modules: overview of disaster risk reduction; overview of space technology in the context of disaster risk reduction; application of space technology for disaster risk reduction and case studies; a short project; and evaluation of the course.

٩٥ - وترد في الوثيقة A/AC.105/490 دراسة تفصيلية عن تطبيق تكنولوجيا الفضاء في مجال اﻹدارة المتكاملة لموارد اﻷراضي والمياه ﻷغراض التنمية الريفية، أعدتها اﻷمانة العامة بناء على طلب اللجنة الفرعية العلمية والتقنية.

At its next session, the Subcommittee planned to consider a new item, entitled " The use of space technology for the medical sciences and public health " . That issue was also being taken up by the action team on public health.
وأردف أنه يخطط لإجراء استعراض، في الدورة التالية للجنة الفرعية، للبند الجديد المعنون " استخدام تكنولوجيا الفضاء في مجال الطب والخدمات الصحية " ، مضيفا أن هذه المسألة تعالج من قبل فريق المبادرات المعني بالمسائل الصحية.

The Committee noted that the Space Education Programme of UNESCO was aimed at enhancing space subjects and disciplines in schools and universities, in particular in developing countries, and raising awareness among the general public of the benefits of space technology for social, economic and cultural development.
248- ولاحظت اللجنة أن برنامج اليونسكو للتعليم الفضائي يرمي إلى النهوض بمواضيع وفروع علوم الفضاء في المدارس والجامعات، لا سيما في البلدان النامية، وإذكاء وعي العامة بفوائد تكنولوجيا الفضاء في مجال التنمية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية.

As recommended by UNISPACE III, the activities in the area of space technology and disaster management are aimed at promoting the use of space technology for disaster management in developing countries, covering both emergency response and risk reduction.
16- على نحو ما أوصى به اليونيسبيس الثالث، ترمي الأنشطة المضطلع بها في مجال تكنولوجيا الفضاء وإدارة الكوارث إلى تعزيز استخدام تكنولوجيا الفضاء في مجال إدارة الكوارث في البلدان النامية، وهذا يشمل الاستجابة في حالات الطوارئ والحد من المخاطر على السواء.

The Subcommittee noted that the Action Team on Public Health had held a meeting during the session, and noted, in this context, that continued discussions were needed on the use of space technology in the area of tele-epidemiology and tele-health to bring concrete benefits for meeting health needs.
59- ولاحظت اللجنة الفرعية أنَّ فريق العمل المعني بالصحة العامة قد عقد اجتماعا خلال الدورة ولاحظت في هذا السياق أنَّ من الضروري أن تستمر المناقشات حول استخدام تكنولوجيا الفضاء في مجال دراسة الأوبئة وتوفير الرعاية الصحية عن بُعد لتحقيق فوائد ملموسة من أجل تلبية الاحتياجات الصحية.

49. Ms. Blum (Colombia) noting that the information gained from observation satellites in respect of food security showed that technology alone could not solve the problem, said that she would be grateful if the panellists could comment on international cooperation instruments that might contribute to the establishment of national and regional systems aimed at better using space technology in the area of food security.

To increase the use of space technology in disaster management, a number of global initiatives have been established to make use of space technology in disaster management.
