In 2002, the Assembly adopted the Monterrey Consensus of the International Conference on Financing for Development.

As you know, the Council has been assigned an important role in staying engaged in the implementation of the commitments made in the Monterrey Consensus of the International Conference on Financing for Development.

In the follow-up to the Monterrey Consensus of the International Conference on Financing for Development, the subprogramme assisted in making the Council meetings with the Bretton Woods institutions more effective forums for addressing issues of coherence, coordination and cooperation, in particular with civil society and the business sector.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Rosenthal highlighted the important role that the business sector had to play in implementing the Monterrey Consensus of the International Conference on Financing for Development.1 He outlined the key topics on the agenda and the organization of work.
