Among those cases, the Government stated that for those persons acquitted by the military court, particularly Abdul Moneim Gamal El-Din Abdul Moneim, Hussein Taha Umar Affifi, Amre Muhammad Ali al-Iraqi, Tariq Mansour Ali, Hassan Makkawi Hassanein Makkawi and Muhammad Ali al-Sayyed Higazi, the court had not been convinced of the truth of the allegations of torture.

23. Mr. Gamaleldin (Egypt), speaking on draft resolution A/C.2/55/L.46, said that his delegation appreciated the flexibility on the issue of water supply that had been demonstrated by all participants in the consultations on that important document concerning the policies and strategies of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Mr. Gamaleldin (Egypt) said a partnership must be formed between developed and developing countries and the management of the international economy improved by making the decision-making process more transparent and democratic, so that the developing countries could have a voice in all matters relating to the world economic order.

Mr. Gamaleldin (Egypt) expressed surprise at the fact that the follow-up to the major United Nations conferences and summits and special sessions organized since the early 1990s was on the agenda only of the Second Committee, although many of those conferences and summits also fell within the mandate of the Third Committee.
