Mr. Escalante Hasbún (El Salvador) thanked the High Commissioner for her contributions to identifying the protection and implementation gaps in existing human rights instruments on the rights of older persons, which had contributed greatly to discussions in the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing and had led to the Human Rights Council's recent decision to appoint an independent expert on the rights of older persons.
