During its twenty-third session, the Committee had organized an informal meeting to encourage those States parties that had not yet done so to accept the amendment to article 43, paragraph 2, of the Convention on the Rights of the Child regarding the increase in the membership of the Committee from 10 to 18.

They hoped that other States parties would deposit their instruments of acceptance in support of the amendment to increase the membership of the Committee from 10 to 18.
وأعربا عن أملهما أن تقوم الدول الأطراف الأخرى بإيداع وثائق قبولها تأييداً للتعديل وذلك من أجل زيادة عضوية اللجنة من 10 إلى 18.

The diverse character of the Commission's membership was an asset making its work forward-looking, authoritative and representative.
وقد كان تنوع عضوية اللجنة من العوامل التي ساعدت على جعل عملها استشرافيا وتمثيليا وذا مصداقية.

In this regard, the enlargement of the Commission's membership from 32 to 46, the adoption of a thematic and focused multi-year work programme to the year 2000 and the decision to annualize its meetings will enable it to fulfil this central role.
وفي هذا الصدد، فإن توسيع عضوية اللجنة من ٣٢ إلى ٤٦، واعتماد برنامج عمل متعدد السنوات موضوعي ومركز حتى سنة ٢٠٠٠ وقرار جعل اجتماعاتها سنوية سيمكنها من الوفاء بهذا الدور المركزي.
