23. Governments, international organizations, the private sector, industry and professional associations, and other non-governmental organizations all have an important role to play in the process of improving access to information on ESTs.

Developing countries should be facilitated access to reliable information on environmentally sound technologies and helped in institutional development and capacity-building to accommodate the transfer of such technologies.

For developing countries, access to information on environmentally sound technologies and knowledge for sustainable forest management needs to be improved through strengthened integrated information management systems, including the development of a clearing-house mechanism on environmentally sound technologies for sustainable forest management.

(b) Continuation of the strengthening of the UNEP knowledge base and information system with high-quality and reliable information on environmentally sound technologies for freshwater and urban management, and making that information accessible through appropriate means;

The second theme, that is, “synthesizing and assessing information”, has as a basis decision 9/CP.3 which calls upon the secretariat to “synthesize and disseminate information on environmentally sound technologies and know-how conducive to mitigating and adapting to climate change”.

81. The alternative approach is a macrolevel approach that aims to involve financiers on a wider scale, through the dissemination of information on ESTs and the establishment of linkages between financiers and technology centres.

(a) The Convention secretariat is requested (i) to continue its work on technology information and a project inventory database by consulting with Parties and relevant international organizations and (ii) to develop options for a one-stop database and specialized information system that allows quick access to reliable information on ESTs, know-how, good practice and other information relevant to technology transfer;
(أ) يُطلب من أمانة الاتفاقية `1` مواصلة عملها المتعلق بالمعلومات التكنولوجية ومشروع قاعدة بيانات بشأن قوائم الجرد بالتشاور مع الأطراف والمنظمات الدولية المعنية و`2` وضع خيارات فيما يتعلق بنظام جامع لقواعد البيانات والمعلومات المتخصصة يمكن من الوصول بسرعة إلى معلومات موثوقة عن التكنولوجيات السليمة بيئيا والدراية الفنية والممارسات الجيدة وغير ذلك من المعلومات المتصلة بنقل التكنولوجيا؛

(a) An assessment of existing information systems related to ESTs should be undertaken as part of a process to improve access to relevant information on the transfer of ESTs.
