Upon receipt of the letter from the Acting President of the General Assembly, the President informed the Council that, in the balloting held simultaneously in the Assembly, Mr. Luigi Ferrari Bravo had obtained an absolute majority of votes and had therefore been elected a member of the Court for a term of office expiring on 5 February 1997.
