19. The successful implementation of these mechanisms will depend upon, among other things, effective leadership from among local people, based on criteria for carrying out their own inventories, evaluations, monitoring, impact assessments and development programmes for forest use and conservation, drawing upon their cultural aptitudes and based on their traditional knowledge and local criteria.
١٩ - والتنفيذ الناجح لهذه اﻵليات سيتوقف، في جملة أمور، على وجود قيادات مؤثرة من بين السكان المحليين، استنادا إلى معايير ﻹجراء عمليات الجرد والتقييم والرصد وتقييم اﻵثار التي يقومون بها وبرامج إنمائية لاستخدام الغابات وصونها، وذلك بالاستعانة بقدراتهم الثقافية واستنادا إلى معارفهم التقليدية وإلى المعايير المحلية.

37. A need recognized by indigenous peoples related to issues of adaptation to climate changes was that for the creation and adequate financing of the Adaptation Fund, to be accessed by them for the purpose of addressing the potential and actual impacts of climate change in a manner compatible with their traditional knowledge systems, customs, culture, lifestyles and aspirations.

It also concluded that recognition of the " rights " of indigenous people to their traditional knowledge " would enable commitments made by countries under human rights conventions, covenants and agreements to be harmonized at the national level with international commitments on environment, development, and trade " (para. 14).

29. Similarly, general recommendation No. 34 (2011) on racial discrimination against people of African descent specified the right of people of African descent to their cultural identity, to keep, maintain and foster their mode of life and forms of organization, culture, languages and religious expressions, as well as the right to the protection of their traditional knowledge and their cultural and artistic heritage.
