٣١ - وأشارت ممثلة الدولة الطرف إلى أن اﻷزمة التي يمر بها بلدها حاليا من أخطر اﻷزمات اﻹثنية التي اجتاحت بوروندي خلال أكثر من ٣٠ سنة؛ وكانت آخر أزمة قد أودت بحياة أول رئيس للجمهورية منتخب ديمقراطيا كما أدت إلى مذابح كثيرة في كل أنحاء البلد.

Members of the Committee thanked the representative of the State party for her frank account of the events that had occurred in her country and emphasized the seriousness of the crisis which Burundi was undergoing, a crisis that constituted a set-back for the incipient move towards democracy and respect for human rights.
٣٢ - وشكر أعضاء اللجنة ممثلة الدولة الطرف على عرضها الصريح لﻷحداث التي وقعت في بلدها، وأكدوا على خطورة اﻷزمة التي تمر بها بوروندي، وهي أزمة تشكل انتكاسا لبداية التحول نحو الديمقراطية واحترام حقوق اﻹنسان.

The report was introduced by the representative of the State party, who emphasized that Spain attached great importance to the promotion of racial equality and indicated that the Spanish Government had taken various measures to combat and prevent all manifestations of racism, xenophobia and intolerance.
٠٨٤ - وقدم التقرير ممثلة الدولة الطرف التي أكدت أن اسبانيا تولي أهمية كبيرة لتعزيز المساواة العرقية وأوضح أن الحكومة الاسبانية قد اتخذت تدابير مختلفة لمكافحة ومنع جميع مظاهر العنصرية وكراهية اﻷجانب والتعصب.

Replying to the questions raised by the members of the Committee, the representative of the State party indicated that the total population of Spain was 38.9 million; the Gypsy population was approximately 600,000; there were some 400,000 aliens resident in Spain as of the end of 1992, about half of whom were Europeans.
٨٨٤ - وردا على اﻷسئلة التي أثارها أعضاء اللجنة، أوضحت ممثلة الدولة الطرف أن مجموع سكان اسبانيا يبلغ ٣٨,٩ مليون نسمة، وأن عدد السكان الغجر يبلغ ٠٠٠ ٦٠٠ تقريبا؛ وأن هناك ٠٠٠ ٤٠٠ من اﻷجانب يقيمون في اسبانيا حتى نهاية عام ١٩٩٢، نصفهم تقريبا من اﻷوروبيين.

Introducing the fourth periodic report, the representative of the State Party outlined the current economic, political and social situation in the Russian Federation and stressed that the position of women should be viewed within the context of the problems generally encountered in those areas.
٤٩٧- وعرضت ممثلة الدولة الطرف التقرير الدوري الرابع، فأوجزت الحالة الاقتصادية والسياسية والاجتماعية الراهنة في الاتحاد الروسي وشددت على ضرورة النظر الى وضع المرأة في اطار المشاكل التي تواجه عموما في تلك المجالات.
