At its fifty-first session, in 2008, the Commission considered the report of the Executive Director on the world drug problem (E/CN.7/2008/2 and Add.1-6), prepared pursuant to Commission resolutions 42/11 and 50/12, which examined the progress made in the 10 years since the twentieth special session of the General Assembly.

There are still considerable gaps in the information base, however, and for the final evaluation of the 10-year period since the twentieth special session of the General Assembly (1998-2008), it will be necessary to obtain more data on the key indicators, including, at the least, estimates for one year of each of the two periods 1998-2003 and 2003-2008.
