In addition to the measures described above, the Government continues to work with Aboriginal women in supporting and facilitating initiatives that enhance the well being of First Nations women.

Forcing women to identify the father of their child and have him present to sign birth documents in order to maintain the " Indian " status of the child perpetuates violence against women, especially given the high incidence of spousal violence against First Nations women.
