5. Mr. Hidayat (Indonesia) said that his delegation attached great importance to the draft resolution but that, in view of the recent financial upsets in Asia, he regretted that it was necessary to proceed to a vote owing to certain points on which there was disagreement.

50. Mr. Hidayat (Indonesia) said that the draft resolution just adopted was a procedural text aimed at ensuring the implementation of resolution 51/174, which the General Assembly had adopted by consensus at its preceding session.

1. Mr. Hidayat (Indonesia), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, said that the text of the resolution might seem long; however, given the diversity of the issues it addressed, it was both concise and complete.
١ - السيد هدايات )إندونيسيا(: قدم المشروع باسم مجموعة اﻟ ٧٧ والصين قائلا إن نص مشروع القرار قد يبدو طويلا ولكنه موجز ومكتمل في آن واحد بالنظر إلى تعدد المواضيع التي يتطرق إليها.

1. Mr. Hidayat (Indonesia), introducing draft resolution A/C.2/53/L.12 on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, said that the recent financial crisis had demonstrated the importance of the International Development Strategy.
١ - السيد هدايات )إندونيسيا(: عرض مشروع القرار A/C.2/53/L.12 نيابة عن مجموعة اﻟ ٧٧ والصين فقال إن اﻷزمة المالية التي حدثت مؤخرا أبرزت أهمية الاستراتيجية اﻹنمائية الدولية.

Upon the proposal of the Chairman, the Forum then designated Mr. Knut Øistad (Norway), Vice-Chairman-cum Rapporteur, to chair Working Group I and Mr. Slamet Hidayat (Indonesia), Vice-Chairman of the Forum, to chair Working Group II.

At the 12th meeting, on 22 June, the Forum had before it a draft decision entitled " Initiation of the work of the United Nations Forum on Forests with the Collaborative Partnership on Forests " , submitted as a result of consultations held in Working Group II under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chairman of the Forum, Mr. Slamet Hidayat (Indonesia).

Mr. Hidayat (Indonesia): Allow me to begin by expressing our sincerest appreciation to you, Mr. President, for convening this historic meeting of the General Assembly to admit the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste as the 191st Member of the United Nations.

At the 12th meeting, on 22 June, the Forum had before it a draft decision entitled " Development of a plan of action for the implementation of the proposals for action of the Intergovernmental Panel on Forests/Intergovernmental Forum on Forests, which will address financial provisions " , submitted as a result of consultations held in Working Group II under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chairman of the Forum, Mr. Slamet Hidayat (Indonesia).
38 - وفي الجلسة 12، المعقودة في 22 حزيران/يونيه، كان معروضا على المجلس مشروع مقرر بعنوان " وضع خطة عمل لتنفيذ مقترحات العمل المقدمة من الفريق الحكومي الدولي المعني بالغابات/المنتدى الحكومي الدولي المعني بالغابات، والتي ستتناول الأحكام المالية " مقدم عقب مشاورات أجراها الفريق العامل الثاني برئاسة نائب رئيس المنتدى السيد سلامة هدايات (إندونيسيا).

3. Mr. Hidayat (Indonesia), speaking on behalf of his own country and the other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam, said that ASEAN welcomed the Scientific Committee's report (A/57/46) and attached great importance to its activities.
