The Governments of Iran and Pakistan in Asia, Kenya, United Republic of Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire and Zambia in Africa, Austria, Germany and Italy in Europe have provided haven to refugees fleeing their homelands.

The project started in 1988 and is operational or being installed in 13 countries: Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Zaire and Zambia.

5. Reminders were addressed to Botswana, the Congo, Zaire and Zambia, on 25 January 1994.

To that end, six letters, dated 15 November 1993, were addressed by the Chairman of the Committee to Botswana, the Congo, Namibia, South Africa, Zaire and Zambia.

In the second week of April 1994, the Chairman of the Committee contacted the Permanent Representatives of Botswana, the Congo, Namibia, Zaire and Zambia to the United Nations to seek a response from their respective Governments to the above communications.

10. The Advisory Committee on the United Nations Educational and Training Programme for Southern Africa is composed of representatives of Belarus, Canada, Denmark, India, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, Norway, the United Republic of Tanzania, the United States of America, Venezuela, Zaire and Zambia.
١٠ - تتكون اللجنة الاستشارية لبرنامج اﻷمم المتحدة التعليمي والتدريبي للجنوب الافريقي من ممثلي بيلاروس وجمهورية تنزانيا المتحدة والدانمرك وزائير وزامبيا وفنزويلا وكندا وليبريا والنرويج ونيجيريا والهند والولايات المتحدة اﻷمريكية واليابان.

8. Over the biennium, five countries (Cambodia, Madagascar, Solomon Islands, Zaire and Zambia) were designated LDCs, and Namibia was named an " as if " LDC.

In Burkina Faso, Burundi, Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zaire and Zambia in Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan in Asia, and Haiti in Latin America, they exceeded 100 deaths per 1,000 live births; while in Réunion, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong, Israel, Martinique and Singapore, they stood at 10 or less.

The Special Rapporteur applauds the determination of those African countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zaire and Zambia, which decided unanimously to impose economic sanctions against Burundi, coinciding with the efforts undertaken by President Nyerere, the Heads of State of the region and the OAU, in order to arrive at a peaceful settlement of the Burundi conflict.

Accordingly, six letters were sent, on 15 November 1993, to Botswana, the Congo, Namibia, South Africa, Zaire and Zambia. Replies have since been received from Botswana, the Congo, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia (see S/1994/825 of 15 July 1994).

In Mozambique, in May 1993, UNHCR launched a three-year US$ 203 million programme for the repatriation of the over 1.7 million Mozambican refugees dispersed throughout six southern African countries (Malawi, Swaziland, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zaire and Zambia).
٣١ - وفي موزامبيق، شرعـت المفوضيـة، فــي أيار/مايو ١٩٩٣، فــي برنامج ﻹعـادة توطيـن اللاجئيـن الموزامبيقيين المشتتين في أنحاء ستة من بلدان الجنوب الافريقي )جمهورية تنزانيا المتحــدة وجنــوب افريقيا وزائير وزامبيا وسوازيلند وملاوي( والذين يزيد عددهم عن ١,٧ مليون نسمة، وهذا البرنامج مدته ثلاث سنوات وتبلغ تكلفته ٢٠٣ مليون دولار من دولارات الولايات المتحدة.
