As a cornerstone of good governance, systems of accountability provide a foundation for realizing rights-based development objectives, ensure that high-quality data and knowledge are accessible to the public and to all decision makers and create enabling environments that allow all citizens, their informed representatives and civil society actors to exercise a check on the actions of Governments and other key actors and public authorities.
