17. On 29 March, the Constitutional Court rejected the appeals and proclaimed the re-election of President Yayi Boni.

Incidents of rape by members of the Mouvement ivoirien de libération de l'ouest de la Côte d'Ivoire (MILOCI), led by Ziké Sylvain alias Pasteur Gammi, the Union patriotique de résistance du Grand Ouest (UPRGO), led by Yayi Octave, and the Front pour la libération du Grand Ouest (FLGO), led by Maho Glofié, were also documented.

18. As a result of President Yayi's diplomatic campaign to mobilize regional support, an agreement was reached with President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, which led to Benin and Nigeria commencing a six-month joint patrol programme along Benin's coast, which began on 28 September 2011.

20. In addition to requesting the support of the United Nations, President Yayi also wrote to several Member States to seek assistance in addressing the threat of piracy along the coast of Benin.

57. The keynote addresses were given by the host, President Ali Bongo Ondimba, and the President of Benin and Chairperson of the African Union, Thomas Yayi Boni.

Meanwhile, the President of Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaoré, and the President of Benin, Boni Yayi, transmitted unequivocal messages to Mr. Djotodia encouraging him to work closely with the Prime Minister and to abide by his commitments to respect the Libreville Agreements and the N'Djamena Declaration.

It should be noted that President Yayi had written earlier, on 9 June 2009, to the United Nations to request the assistance of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to help Benin formulate a national integrated programme to fight drug trafficking and organized crime in the country.
وجدير بالإشارة أن الرئيس يايي سبق له أن كتب إلى الأمم المتحدة في 9 حزيران/يونيه طالبا مساعدة مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة لإعانة بنن على صياغة برنامج وطني متكامل لمكافحة الاتجار بالمخدرات والجريمة المنظمة في البلد.

15. In addition to recent intensive diplomatic démarches undertaken by President Yayi to seek regional and international assistance to combat piracy in Benin, national authorities have implemented several other initiatives to address the threat.
15 -بالإضافة إلى المبادرات الدبلوماسية المكثفة التي قام بها مؤخرا الرئيس يايي لطلب الحصول على المساعدة الإقليمية والدولية في مكافحة القرصنة في بنن، تنفذ السلطات الوطنية عدة مبادرات أخرى لمواجهة هذا الخطر.

16. Before the release of the provisional results, which gave 53 per cent of the votes to President Yayi Boni and 35 per cent to Adrien Houngbédji, both the ruling party and the main opposition coalition claimed victory, thus generating tensions, which resulted in isolated incidents.

President Yayi (spoke in French): I wish at the outset to reiterate from this rostrum my deepest condolences to His Majesty King Harald V of Norway in connection with the car-bomb attack and the shootings that took place on Utøya Island -- a terrible tragedy that has devastated his people.

President Yayi (spoke in French): I am taking part personally in this session of the General Assembly in order to reiterate Benin's commitment to the noble purposes and principles of the United Nations, and to express the readiness of the Beninese delegation to cooperate and contribute, as best it can, to the success of these deliberations.
