It is vital that there is genuine backing for a policy of achieving gender equality by amending legislation, by devising specific gender-equity mechanisms which take into account the situation that has emerged in practice, by reducing the impact of negative cultural factors and stereotypes and by introducing additional mechanisms such as gender quotas that will enhance opportunities for women.

In accordance with article 2, paragraph 3 (a), of the Covenant, the State party is under an obligation to provide the author with an effective remedy, consisting of modifying the applicable law so that no improper differentiation is made between persons in the author's situation and EEA nationals.
