On this basis, the Arab leaders reaffirm that the optimum solution for preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the region is to pursue a comprehensive regional approach through adoption by the international community of the Arab initiative which has, for several years, called for the Middle East to be a region free from weapons of mass destruction, principally nuclear weapons.
