The Economic and Social Council, in its resolution 2004/68 of 5 November 2004, requested the Commission within its existing resources and within its role in coordinating science and technology activities in the United Nations system, to undertake a number of activities related to the promotion of science and technology to meet the internationally agreed development goals, including those contained in the Millennium Declaration.
