Further, the Government does not contest the allegation that petitioners were deprived of the right to communicate with counsel of their own choosing at the pretrial stage and the assigned counsel did not have access to the prosecution material to adequately prepare the defence.

In violation of article 14.3 (b) of the ICCPR, Mr. Hekmati has been effectively deprived of his right to prepare his defence and communicate with counsel.
