There are many useful proposals and ideas from which we can draw inspiration, including the five-point proposal of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on nuclear disarmament, including on a nuclear weapons convention, and on a proposal by Costa Rica and Malaysia on a Model Nuclear Weapons Convention.

Taking note of the Model Nuclear Weapons Convention that was submitted to the Secretary-General by Costa Rica and Malaysia in 2007 and circulated by the Secretary-General,

During the sixty-second session of the General Assembly, Costa Rica and Malaysia submitted a proposal on a model nuclear weapons convention (A/62/650).

Brazil sees elements contained in the Model Nuclear Weapons Convention, submitted by Costa Rica and Malaysia to the General Assembly in 2007 (A/62/650), as a good basis to begin discussions on a comprehensive convention on nuclear weapons.

The model nuclear weapons convention was submitted by Costa Rica and Malaysia as an official document during the 62nd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (A/62/650).

Following the July 1996 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legality of the threat or use of nuclear weapons, Costa Rica and Malaysia had submitted alternative ways of eliminating the risk of nuclear weapons, in the form of the draft model nuclear weapons convention.
