56. The Economic Commission for Europe continues its efforts towards improving the environment in the region through its five environmental conventions and their subsequent protocols.
56 - وتواصل اللجنة الاقتصادية لأوروبا بذل جهودها الرامية إلى تحسين البيئة في المنطقة من خلال اتفاقياتها الخمس المعنية بالبيئة وبروتوكولاتها اللاحقة.

Review and assess the state of the environment in the region and, where a regional perspective on the issues provides a clear advantage, highlight the major environmental concerns with a view to encouraging the integration of environmental concerns into development policies, strategies, plans and programmes of members and associate members, at both the macroeconomic and sectoral levels.
١ - استعراض وتقييم حالة البيئة في المنطقة وتسليط اﻷضواء على الشواغل البيئية الرئيسية، حيث يوفر المنظور اﻹقليمي للقضايا ميزة واضحة، وذلك بغية التشجيع على إدماج الشواغل البيئية في سياسات واستراتيجيات وخطط وبرامج التنمية لﻷعضاء واﻷعضاء المنتسبين، على كل من الصعيدين الاقتصادي الكلي والقطاعي.

9. Review and assess the state of the environment in the region and highlight the major environmental considerations with a view to encouraging the integration of such concerns into development policies, strategic plans and programmes at the macroeconomic and sectoral levels and facilitating policy dialogues, training and exchange of experiences.

It provides an update of the environmental situation, based on the scientific results obtained through the surveys and assessments carried out under and in relation to the Inter-agency Plan of Action for the Region Covered by the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) and briefly describes United Nations initiatives to mitigate the adverse effects of the conflict and rehabilitate the environment in the region.

The process of political settlement of the Balkans conflict initiated at the summit meeting should go forward under the auspices of the United Nations on the basis of Security Council resolutions and, within its mandate, UNIDO could add its own contribution to that being made by other agencies to the restoration of industry and rehabilitation of the environment in the region.
ومضى يقول ان عملية التسوية السلمية لنزاع البلقان، التي استهلت في اجتماع القمة، ينبغي أن تسير قدما تحت رعاية اﻷمم المتحدة على أساس قرارات مجلس اﻷمن، كما ان في استطاعة اليونيدو، في اطار ولايتها، أن تضيف مساهمتها الى المساهمات التي تقدمها وكالات أخرى لاعادة الصناعة الى سابق عهدها واستصلاح البيئة في المنطقة.

35. Mr. Ovia (Papua New Guinea) said that Papua New Guinea continued to call for the cessation of nuclear testing in the South Pacific region, and joined the Marshall Islands in urging the Government of the United States of America to compensate the people affected by that Government’s previous nuclear testing and to undertake greater efforts to clean up the environment in the region.
٣٥ - السيد أوفيا )بابوا غينيا الجديدة(: قال إن بابوا غينيا الجديدة تواصل دعوتها لوقف التجارب النووية في منطقة جنوب المحيط الهادئ، وهي تضم صوتها إلى جزر مارشال في حث حكومة الولايات المتحدة اﻷمريكية على تعويض الشعوب المتضررة من التجارب النووية السابقة لتلك الحكومة وبذل المزيد من الجهود من أجل تنظيف البيئة في المنطقة.
