210. Gomaa Abdel-Aziz Mohammed Khalil was reportedly arrested on 8 June 1997 from his cafeteria on the Cairo-Alexandria road by police officers who ravaged the cafeteria and took him to Itaay El-Baroud police station to force him to work as a police informer.

Mr. Gomaa (Egypt), referring to the point made by the South African representative concerning the decision to grant observer status to IUCN, said that in that particular case, the decision had gone to the Second Committee, which had perhaps been less qualified to deal with questions of procedures and rules.
