5. The results of the Conference should include a political declaration that sets out a framework for future national, regional and international cooperation and action on small arms and light weapons in all its aspects and should identify and prioritize short, medium and long-term approaches that could prevent, combat and eradicate illicit trade in these weapons in all its aspects.

8. We understand that there is a need to strengthen the follow-up mechanisms, such as national reporting and information exchange: these will allow work to be coordinated and information provided by each State on progress made in internal controls of small arms and light weapons to be analysed and will be essential decision-making tools for the adoption of measures to combat the illicit trade in these weapons and their serious consequences.
8 - ونحن ندرك أن هناك حاجة لتعزيز آليات الرصد، من قبيل تقديم التقارير الوطنية وتبادل المعلومات: إذ من شأن مثل هذه الآليات أن تسهم في تنسيق العمل وتحليل المعلومات المقدمة من كل دولة بشأن التقدم المحرز في المراقبة الداخلية للأسلحة الصغيرة والأسلحة الخفيفة، كما ستشكل أدوات أساسية لاتخاذ القرارات بشأن اعتماد تدابير لمكافحة الاتجار غير المشروع بهذه الأسلحة وآثاره الخطيرة.
