The General Assembly, in its resolution 59/2 of 20 October 2004, endorsed the Plan of Action to further implement the recommendations of UNISPACE III as proposed by the Committee in its report to the Assembly (see A/59/174).

42. Ms. Baaziz (Algeria) commended the efforts of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space to implement the recommendations of UNISPACE III.

68- ونوّهت اللجنة الفرعية بما قدّمته أفرقة العمل من مساهمات فريدة في الجهود الرامية إلى تنفيذ توصيات اليونيسبيس الثالث. فنظرا لوضعها تحت القيادة الطوعية للحكومات، أتاحت هذه الآلية المبتكرة مشاركة هيئات حكومية وغير حكومية في متابعة نتائج اليونيسبيس الثالث، مع الحفاظ على الدور المحوري للدول الأعضاء.

In the same resolution, the General Assembly noted with satisfaction that the Committee had established a closer link between its work to implement the recommendations of UNISPACE III and the work of the Commission on Sustainable Development by contributing to the thematic areas that are addressed by the Commission.

The need to build indigenous capacity in space law and policy was recognized by the Third United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNISPACE III) and emphasized in the strategy of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space to further implement the recommendations of UNISPACE III.
وقد سلّم مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الثالث المعني باستكشاف الفضاء الخارجي واستخدامه في الأغراض السلمية (اليونيسبيس الثالث) بضرورة بناء القدرة المحلية في مجال قانون الفضاء والسياسة العامة بشأن الفضاء، وأُكّد عليها في استراتيجية لجنة استخدام الفضاء الخارجي في الأغراض السلمية بشأن المضيّ قُدما في تنفيذ توصيات اليونيسبيس الثالث.

The revised structure of the agendas of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee and Legal Subcommittee (see paragraphs 24 and 25 above) has enabled those bodies to provide policy guidelines to the action teams to implement the recommendations of UNISPACE III. The work of the action teams complemented the work conducted by the subsidiary bodies on the agenda items relating to the global challenges set forth in the Vienna Declaration.
