Member States have also engaged in both national and regional initiatives to support local mediation efforts, such as the Group of Friends of Mediation led by Finland and Turkey and the Mediation and Facilitation Unit recently established by ECOWAS.

As a founding member of the Group of Friends of Mediation formed in 2010, and also in its role as a co-sponsor of the resolution, Spain wishes to recall the observation in the Secretary-General's report (S/2009/189) that Member States and the Organization itself had devoted remarkably little attention and support to mediation.
