On the basis of its mandate to strengthen national capacity for disaster preparedness, mitigation and prevention, and following the creation of the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery in 2001, UNDP continued to reinforce its efforts to strengthen disaster reduction capacity in some 60 programme countries.
