Several activities were undertaken as part of a concerted effort by UNOWA, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) to implement the West Africa Coast Initiative, in support of the ECOWAS Regional action plan.

60. On drug trafficking and cross-border organized crime, UNOWA will continue to contribute to the effective implementation of the ECOWAS Regional plan of action and the West Africa Coast Initiative.

In this regard, the Council welcomes the commitment of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) with the European Union (EU), the UN and other partners for the immediate implementation of the ECOWAS Regional Action Plan on Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime, including options for targeted sanctions against those individuals identified as members or supporters of the drug trafficking network.

The present report therefore highlights the activities carried out by UNODC since March 2013 in support of the implementation of the ECOWAS Regional Action Plan.
