1. The brief presentation by the UNCTAD secretariat on the evolution of telecommunications services in the world and some prospects for the future was placed in the context of the recommendations of the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency (UNISTE).

In this context, the Commission will be in a position to examine the possibility of inviting experts to meet and address sectoral and cross-sectoral issues relevant to the follow-up of the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency.

94. In order to provide practical support to entrepreneurs in developing countries, UNCTAD should follow up on the results of the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency (UNISTE), held at Columbus, Ohio, in October 1994.
٤٩- قصد تقديم الدعم العملي ﻷصحاب المشاريع في البلدان النامية، ينبغي أن يتابع اﻷونكتاد نتائج ندوة اﻷمم المتحدة الدولية المعنية بالكفاءة في التجارة، المعقودة في كولومبس بأوهايو في تشرين اﻷول/أكتوبر ٤٩٩١.

(b) Interested developing countries will have been assisted in the assessment of the efficiency of their trade supporting services and best practices in the light of the recommendations of the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency.

54. Support had also been expressed for the suggestion to use the occasion of the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency, to be held at Columbus, Ohio, in 1994, to mark the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary.
٥٤ - كما جرى اﻹعراب عن تأييد الاقتراح الرامي الى استخدام مناسبة انعقاد ندوة اﻷمم المتحدة الدولية بشأن الكفاءة في مجال التجارة المقرر عقدها في كولومبوس، بولاية أوهايو في عام ٤٩٩١، لبدء الاحتفال بالذكرى السنوية الثلاثين.

4. Ms. WILLIAMS-MANIGAULT (United States of America) said that her delegation was pleased with the results of the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency held in October 1994 in Columbus, Ohio, under the auspices of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

1. Pursuant to paragraph 18 of conclusions and decisions 415 (XL) of the Trade and Development Board, the Board held an executive session - the eighth executive session - to consider such follow-up work as might be needed in the wake of the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency (Columbus, Ohio, 17-21 October 1994).

(c) To encourage and provide appropriate assistance, upon request, to developing countries to carry out an assessment of the efficiency of their trade-supporting services and best practices in the light of the recommendations of the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency; where parts of such an exercise can be performed by the private sector, this should be encouraged;
