In accordance with decisions VII/27 and OEWG-IV/6, the Secretariat issued communications to the Parties to the Convention requesting information on the abandonment of ships on land or in ports.

Introduction Decision VII/27, adopted by the Conference of the Parties at its seventh meeting, recognized the concern expressed by a number of Parties related to the abandonment of ships on land or in ports.
1 - أعترف المقرر 7/27 الذي اعتمده مؤتمر الأطراف في اجتماعه السابع، بما أعرب عنه عدد من الأطراف من شواغل حيال التخلي عن السفن على الأرض أو في الموانئ.

Implementation In accordance with decision VII/27, the Secretariat issued a communication to the Parties to the Convention, requesting information on the abandonment of ships on land or in ports.

Furthermore, the Conference of the Parties at its eighth meeting, by its Decision VIII/13, recognized the need for guidance on how best to deal with ships that are abandoned on land or in ports.

229. Basel Convention. The Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention prepared a questionnaire to facilitate the analysis of the information submitted by the parties on the abandonment of ships on land or in ports.

Parties to the Convention and other stakeholders were invited to submit responses to a questionnaire on the abandonment of ships on land or in ports, which will be compiled by the secretariat of the Basel Convention for submission to the second session of the Joint Working Group and the fifth session of the Open-ended Working Group.
ودُعي الأطراف في الاتفاقية وغيرها من أصحاب المصلحة إلى تقديم ردودهم على استبيان عن مسألة هجر السفن على اليابسة أو في المرافئ. وستتولى أمانة اتفاقية بازل جمع هذه الردود لرفعها إلى الدورة الثانية للفريق العامل المشترك والدورة الخامسة للفريق العامل المفتوح باب العضوية.

Requests the Secretariat to review and analyse information received from Parties, other States, ship owners and other stakeholders by 30 June 2006 on the abandonment of ships on land or in ports and to identify key issues for proposals on how to address cases of such abandonment for consideration by the Conference of the Parties at its eighth meeting;
