2. Calls upon States interested in the security of maritime activities to take part actively in the fight against piracy on the high seas off the coast of Somalia, in particular by deploying naval vessels and military aircraft, in accordance with international law, as reflected in the Convention;

That is reflected in the Convention itself, in particular in article 77 and Part XIII. The implementation of those resolutions does not, therefore, justify negating or ignoring the rights established in the Convention.

(b) " conservation and management measures " means measures to conserve and manage one or more species of living marine resources that are adopted and applied consistent with the relevant rules of international law as reflected in the Convention and this Agreement;

67. Several delegations emphasized that marine protected areas beyond areas of national jurisdiction needed to be consistent with international law, as reflected in the Convention.
67 - وأكد العديد من الوفود أن المناطق المحمية البحرية في الأماكن الواقعة خارج نطاق الولاية الوطنية بحاجة إلى أن تكون متماشية مع القانون الدولي، على النحو المبين في الاتفاقية.

The view was expressed that marine protected areas needed to have: clearly delineated boundaries; a strong causal link between the harm being addressed and management measures, which should be flexible and adaptive; and implementation, compliance and enforcement measures consistent with international law, as reflected in the Convention.
وأعرب عن رأي مفاده أن المناطق المحمية البحرية بحاجة إلى أن يكون لها حدود مرسومة بوضوح؛ وعلاقة سببية قوية بين الضرر الجاري تناوله والتدابير الإدارية، التي ينبغي أن تكون مرنة وقابلة للتكيف؛ وتدابير للتنفيذ والامتثال والإنفاذ متماشية مع القانون الدولي، على النحو المبين في الاتفاقية.

The Committee has, in particular, suggested that implementation of article 29 (1) could be pursued by ensuring that any major incidents of religious or other intolerance lead to an immediate reflection on whether a Government has done all it could to promote the values reflected in the Convention.

Thus, for example, where major incidents of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance occur which involve those under 18, it can reasonably be presumed that the Government has not done all that it should to promote the values reflected in the Convention generally, and in article 29 (1) in particular.

This corresponds, moreover, to the view expressed during the 1977 - 1978 Vienna Conference by some delegations which considered that the presumption was self-evident in cases of the uniting or separation of States, in the light of the principle of continuity reflected in the Convention in relation to these kinds of succession.

The text also calls upon States to take measures to protect fibre-optic submarine cables and to fully address issues relating to these cables, in accordance with international law, as reflected in the Convention.
