The States parties shall extend the provisions of their legislation that are applicable to perjury to testimony given by their nationals under this Statute.

1. The Victims and Witnesses Unit shall service the Court and the Defence in all matters related to the protection afforded to all witnesses, victims who appear before the Court, and others who are at risk on account of testimony given by such witnesses, in accordance with their particular needs and circumstances.

284. The objective of the subprogramme of the Section is, firstly, in accordance with article 43, paragraph 6, of the Rome Statute, to provide protective measures and security arrangements, counselling and other appropriate assistance for witnesses and victims who appear before the Court and to others who are at risk as a result of testimony given by such witnesses.

79. In exceptional circumstances the prosecution and the defence are permitted to submit evidence by way of deposition, that is, testimony given by witnesses who are unable or unwilling to testify subsequently in open court (rules 71 and 90).

The Registrar of the Court is also required to set up a Victims and Witnesses Unit within the Registry that shall provide, in consultation with the Office of the Prosecutor, protective measures and security arrangements, counselling and other appropriate assistance for witnesses, victims who appear before the Court, and others who are at risk on account of testimony given by such witnesses.
