Subsequently, in its resolution 60/283, the Assembly authorized the Secretary-General, on an experimental basis, a limited discretion for budgetary implementation, for the bienniums 2006-2007 and 2008-2009, to enter into commitments up to $20 million in each biennium for positions and non-post requirements for the purpose of meeting the evolving needs of the Organization in attaining its mandated programmes and activities.

13. The criteria used to define the evolving needs of the Organization in the context of limited budgetary discretion are the following:

Under the provisions of General Assembly resolution 60/283, as extended in Assembly resolutions 64/243 and 64/260, the Secretary-General is authorized, on an experimental basis, to enter into commitments of up to $20 million in the biennium 2010-2011 for positions and for non-post requirements for the purpose of meeting the evolving needs of the Organization in attaining its mandated programmes and activities.

Requests the Secretary-General, during the course of the programme budget for the biennium 2004 - 2005, to commence, on an experimental basis, with the redeployment of posts as necessary to meet the evolving needs of the Organization in attaining its mandated programmes and activities, in accordance with the following principles:

In its resolution 58/270, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to commence, on an experimental basis, during the course of the programme budget for the biennium 2004-2005, with the redeployment of up to 50 posts, as necessary, to meet the evolving needs of the Organization in attaining its mandated programmes and activities, in accordance with a number of principles, as listed in paragraph 51 of the performance report.

35. The criteria that apply to the evolving needs of the Organization in the context of limited budgetary discretion are as follows:

The Secretary-General proposes that the General Assembly approve the redeployment for the biennium 2006-2007 of the five posts detailed in section II.A of the annex to the comprehensive report and extend the authorization to redeploy posts, as necessary, to the biennium 2006-2007 to meet the evolving needs of the Organization in attaining its mandated programmes and activities.
