Mr. Ka (Senegal) endorsed the comments made by the United Republic of Tanzania on behalf of the Group of 77, and by Benin on behalf of the Group of African States, under agenda item 98 (b), and said that the first Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification represented a significant step forward in the international community’s efforts to tackle the obstacles to sustainable development.
