8. In the course of the Meeting and related consultations, the Coordinator discerned the following trends that may inform and guide future work on victim assistance under Protocol V:

The Secretary-General was encouraged by the fruitful discussions held on the implementation of the plan of action on victim assistance under Protocol V. He urged the Conference to build further on the culture of information sharing established and to continue its efforts towards the adoption of generic preventive measures aimed at minimizing the impact of incidents involving explosive remnants of war.

Serious effort was devoted to establishing the web page on Victim Assistance, as mandated by the Fourth Conference of the High Contracting Parties to Protocol V, in consultation with Austria in its capacity as Coordinator on victim assistance under Protocol V. Furthermore, the process of establishing the Web-based Information System for Protocol V (WISP.V) also consumed much of the Unit's attention.

Ms. Lendenmann (Switzerland) said that, since the entry into force of the Protocol, the High Contracting Parties had made much progress in the area of victim assistance, notably through the adoption of the plan of action on victim assistance under Protocol V and the discussions held at the most recent meeting of experts in April 2010.
