28. The co-investigating judges took up their functions in September 2006, when their Office became operational.

As noted in paragraph 25 above, however, the co-prosecutors did not consider it appropriate for the co-investigating judges to begin judicial investigations until internal rules of procedure had been adopted.

39. The two co-investigating judges would conduct judicial investigations on the basis of introductory charges submitted by the co-prosecutors.

2. The co-investigating judges shall be persons of high moral character, impartiality and integrity who possess the qualifications required in their respective countries for appointment to such a judicial office.
2 - يكون قاضيا التحقيق من الأشخاص المتحلِّين بالأخلاق الرفيعة وبالنـزاهة والكمال ولديهما المؤهلات المطلوبة للتعيين في مثل هذا المنصب القضائي في بلديهما.

The Royal Government of Cambodia shall comply without undue delay with any request for assistance by the co-investigating judges, the co-prosecutors and the Extraordinary Chambers or an order issued by any of them, including, but not limited to:

9. In January 2010, following an investigation that lasted approximately two and a half years, the co-investigating judges notified the parties that the investigations in case 002 had been concluded and invited them to make any final requests for further investigation.

18. On 9 June 2010, the co-investigating judges made a public statement in which they announced that, on that same date, the international co-investigating judge had recorded a disagreement between the two judges relating to the timing of the investigations.

20. In accordance with the internal rules of the Chambers, the co-investigating judges have recorded disagreements relating to the two cases and are consequently following differing approaches in them.

21. Up to 150 witnesses and/or plaintiffs (some 100 from within Cambodia and some 50 from abroad) are expected to be called on by the co-investigating judges, with about one fifth of these also having to appear at the trials proper.
