In the past, the rate prescribed for the payment of blood money (diyya) for non-Muslim victims had been lower than the rate for Muslims, but in 2003 legislation had been passed eliminating that discrepancy.

14. Female circumcision is an age-old tradition and custom in the Sudanese society and is treated by the Sudanese law as a crime of deliberate injury punishable by prison and fine, without prejudice to the right to diyya (compensation) as provided for in section 139 of the Penal Code of 1991.
