Mr. Gba (Côte d'Ivoire), replying to comments made about his country at the previous meeting, said his delegation found it hard to understand why certain other delegations continued to adopt a confrontational rather than a cooperative approach, singling out countries for praise or criticism, without taking full account of the prevailing situations.

Mr. Gba (Côte d'Ivoire) said that it was regrettable that the previous Special Rapporteur had not been able to visit Côte d'Ivoire before preparing her report (A/59/319) and that, basing her findings solely on information communicated to her and without citing her sources, she had added Côte d'Ivoire to the list of countries where violations of the right to life and death threats had taken place (paras. 61 and 68).

Mr. Gba (Côte d'Ivoire), after expressing sympathy for the humanitarian workers around the world who faced attacks while bringing comfort and hope to people in despair, said that the individual was at the centre of the development model his Government had adopted and human rights were at the heart of its policies.

43. Mr. Gba (Côte d'Ivoire) said that, while a serious crisis had prevented Côte d'Ivoire from implementing its poverty reduction strategy paper (PRSP), the impact of the crisis had been mitigated by having PRSP policies in place.
