25. The Subcommission had verified the format and completeness of the submission and completed its preliminary analysis, concluding, inter alia, that the test of appurtenance was satisfied. It also established that it was not necessary to recommend that the advice of specialists, in accordance with rule 57 of the rules of procedure, or that cooperation with relevant international organizations, in accordance with rule 56, be sought.

The test of appurtenance is designed to determine the legal entitlement of a coastal State to delineate the outer limits of the continental shelf throughout the natural prolongation of its land territory to the outer edge of the continental margin, or to a distance of 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured where the outer edge of the continental margin does not extend up to that distance.
والمقصود باختبار التبعية هو تحديد الحق القانوني لدولة ساحلية في تعيين الحدود الخارجية للجرف القاري في أنحاء الامتداد الطبيعي ﻹقليمها البري إلى الطرف الخارجي للحافة القارية، أو إلى مسافة ٢٠٠ ميل بحري من خطوط اﻷساس التي يقاس منها عرض البحر اﻹقليمي حيثما لا يمتد الطرف الخارجي للحافة القارية إلى تلك المسافة.
