ولا نزال نقول إننا لم نف بما تعهدنا به على الرغم من استمرارنا في عقد مؤتمرات القمة بشأن تغير المناخ.

لقد أجمعنا منذ خمس سنوات، وها نحن نعيد إجماعنا اليوم، على أننا سوف نحمي الأطفال من أهوال الصراعات المسلحة ونير الاحتلال الأجنبي، إلا أننا لم نف بالتزامنا، فما زلنا نعيش ذلك التناقض الواضح، الذي يؤدي إلى تهميش المآسي التي يعيشها الأطفال في مناطق عدة، كالأطفال الواقعين تحت نير الاحتلال الأجنبي، واستخدام مآسي البعض منهم لأهداف سياسية، لا لدوافع إنسانية.

What will we, the Member States of this United Nations, say to the people of the developing world grappling with poverty, hunger, HIV/AIDS and other deadly diseases, illiteracy, gender discrimination and other challenges if, by the date set, we have not met the targets of the Millennium Development Goals? My Government sees no merit in the discussion as to whether target dates should have been set.
وإذا لم نف في الموعد المحدد بالأهداف المحددة للأهداف الإنمائية للألفية، فماذا عسانا نقول، نحن الدول الأعضاء في هذه الأمم المتحدة، لسكان العالم النامي الذين يغالبون الفقر والجوع وفيروس نقص المناعة البشرية/الإيدز وغيره من الأمراض الفتاكة، والأمية والتمييز القائم على نوع الجنس، وغيرها من التحديات؟ لا ترى حكومتي أي ميزة في مناقشة ما إذا كان تحديد مواعيد مستهدفة صوابا من عدمه.
